Review: Active Captions is a tiny and practical software program which gives users extra functionality when it comes to dealing with active windows, by quickly minimizing and restoring them from the system tray area. The application is quite intuitive and shows details on how to use it, so Active Captions can be handled even by individuals with less or no experience in software tools. Once initialized, the utilitys Settings area can be accessed from the system tray. As it is mentioned in the Tray tab, users have the possibility of swiftly minimizing and rolling up the windows of any program, by clicking the mouses right button on the windows minimize and maximize buttons. In addition, it is possible to use a default hotkey for these actions, or to set up a custom command. Another important feature of the app lets you assign the right button of the mouse to the windows close button, in order to make the respective frame stay on top of all the other ones. Once again, you can quickly trigger this action through a preset or user-defined key combination. Furthermore, Active Captions can be set to automatically run at system startup and to hide the welcome screen on its initialization. Last but not least, you can switch to a different language for the UI, as well as hide the program icon in the system tray. Active Captions has a good response time to key strokes and mouse events, and uses a very low quantity of CPU and system memory, so its activity is barely noticeable by the computers resources. We have not encountered any problems during our testing, since the tool did not hang, crash or show error notifications. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity, Active Captions should please users of all skill levels.
